12:33Briefly checked out the new ChatGPT app. The selection of voices is good â they sound offensively enthusiastic in the list but that might just be the previews. Then IÂ spoke, it replied, and IÂ threw down my phone and locked it in horror because IÂ am not ready to have such a natural-sounding conversation with a computer. This thing is too good, it will eat up the world. And IÂ grew up reading sci-fi, so Iâm used to the idea â but our overlords were supposed to be smarter than us, not just RNGs.
13:01IÂ keep thinking of that joke about how the existence of the uncanny valley shows there was an evolutionary advantage for our ancestors to detect intruders pretending to be human. (It doesnât, the uncanny valley exists because half our brain is dedicated to analyzing other humansâ reactions.)Well, this is the moment we lose that evolutionary fight. It was hard enough explaining to people that ChatGPT isnât intelligent; itâll be outright impossible now that it speaks like this.
13:10Dammit, IÂ really hoped the service would implode when they finally went ahead with this. www.theverge.com
13:45Iâm not sure IÂ want to spend time playing the whole game, but Cryptmaster is full of very interesting and creative ideas. So much more than just a typing game. store.steampowered.com
